Senior Solicitor/Associate - Employment (Auckland)

McVeagh Fleming is a large full service firm which has been operating in Auckland for over 100 years and has offices in Auckland CBD, Albany and Manukau.

The opportunity:

We're looking for an experienced lawyer to join our growing Employment team in the Auckland CBD office. As a Senior Solicitor or an Associate, you'll be involved in a broad range of employment law advice to employers and employees including personal grievances, drafting advice, health and safety, disciplinary and performance management processes, restructures and any employment law-related matters.

Key responsibilities:

  • Acting for employers and employees in relation to personal grievances and employment disputes, from mediation through to the Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court.
  • The management of all workplace issues, including poor performance, misconduct and restructuring/redundancy.
  • Advising businesses on the employment issues that arise in the context of business transactions.
  • Advising employers on compliance with New Zealand's statutory employment framework.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior members of the team.

What you'll bring:

  • +4 years' PQE current Employment law experience
  • Proven ability resolving complex disputes across a range of areas.
  • The ability and empathy to interact confidently with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain legal concepts in plain English.
  • A desire to grow your own practice, via external marketing and networking.
