Intermediate Staff Solicitor

For thirty five years, staff at Hawke’s Bay Community Law have worked to meet the unmet legal needs of people in the Hawke’s Bay region, to increase their awareness about legal rights and responsibilities, and to promote self-reliance and access to justice.

The work of a community law centre is stimulating, diverse, never dull, and enormously satisfying. Our team provide legal advice and representation in a wide range of legal matters so to be part of that team you will need to be highly motivated and committed to professional and personal excellence.

To be successful in the position you will possess:

  • A passion for social justice and a sense of humour.
  • Commitment to the helping meet the legal needs of low income and marginalised communities.
  • A current Practising Certificate as a Solicitor in New Zealand or be eligible to obtain this.
  • A minimum of 3 years' PQE.
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi and desire to work with Māori.
  • The ability to work in a small team and support team members.
  • Experience in a variety of areas of law and legal education is preferable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills.
  • A valid New Zealand driver licence.

This is a full-time office or clinic based position and is not suitable for remote working.
