Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

This is a great opportunity to be at the heart of enabling major infrastructure projects to proceed, to keep New Zealand moving forward. Our Advisors in the Assessment Team undertake assessments and make robust, reason based statutory decisions under delegation.  The Assessment Team, working in close collaboration with a variety of other Government Agencies, has an important role in the acquisition, use and disposal of land assets across New Zealand.

Advisors are required to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team to ensure deadlines are met and quality decisions are made.  They will also be required to communicate their analysis and recommendations to other Government agencies or Ministerial decision makers.

No two assessments are the same and this role provides the opportunity to demonstrate strong analytic skills, exceptional written and oral communication, and develop your relationship management skills.

We are looking for someone who is energetic, agile, collaborative and seeking to build a knowledge of the Public Works Act, to provide technical expertise on Clearances issues. As part of the team, you will work with your colleagues and peers in an agile, inclusive and delivery focused way that puts the customer at the centre of our decisions.

Ideally, you'll join us with some experience in land and property, interpreting legislation and decision-making. Your experience can be from anywhere, but you must have an interest in the NZ land and property industry and a willingness to develop and build a new area of knowledge or expertise.

These capabilities, combined with your excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, will see you build networks with external service providers, stakeholders and internal colleagues. Using your strong written communication skills, you will review various pieces of work using a critical thinking lens informed by statute, case law and regulatory guidance and provide insightful feedback on sensitive and complex matters.

Skills and experience you would bring to this role include:

• Background, experience and/or knowledge of land and property.
• A relevant tertiary degree in law, or a relevant field would be useful.
• Decision-making experience within a regulatory environment.
• Experience interpreting and applying legislation and frameworks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Peer review and quality assurance experience.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to deliver quality outcomes in a timely manner.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others and build strong working relationships.
• Customer-centric and agile approach to work.
• Understanding of and commitment to Te Tiriti and Māori Crown Relations.

The annual salary range for this role is: $88,000 - $100,000 dependant on skills and experience.
